Designing Minimal Headphone Form

A one-and-a-half-month project designing a minimal, lightweight headphone with Bluetooth functionality. Designed to be minimal with a premium feel, the headphone emphasizes comfort with additional padding an a larger than usual headband compared to market competitors.
Working Online
COVID-19 has transformed how many people work as they transition to working long days digitally. Meetings, social interactions, and work have to be done with others nearby while trying to focus.
Headphone Friction Points for Long, Regular Use
Headphones on the market are not optimal for regular long period use for work and leisure. With the transition made by office work during COVID-19, there is a need for a headphone for regular long use with a professional appearance.
Inspiration
Comfortable, Minimal Form Exploration
A variety of forms were explored to find a balance of minimal, premium and comfortable attributes for Bluetooth headphones. Going from a minimal but clunky box form to a more balanced, comfortable form for easy listening.
Headphones for Regular Everyday Use
A lightweight, minimal headphone for meant for heavy everyday use. It is designed with comfort in mind to seamlessly use for hours switching between leisure and work.
Wider Band for Added Comfort
Wide contact headband for dispersed pressure. In contrast to many modern headphones, the headband covers a larger area for extended comfort during long listening sessions.
Light, On Ear Headphones for Long Use
On Ear style to avoid heat of over ear headphones and the sealed environment of earbuds.
Swivel Connection for Adjustment
The connection point between the headband and the drivers allows for a single axis swivel to allow for adjustments. There are also other points with the ability to swivel, tilt, and expand to fit the user comfortably.
Light Weight, Minimal, and Professional for Work and Leisure
A visual appearance that will look professional in a work environment for video conferences and work well with various lifestyles aesthetics users may have.
